About Kampala DevOps Community

Kampala DevOps Community was born from a simple yet powerful realization: even within Uganda's small and specialized tech ecosystem, the DevOps engineering niche deserved a dedicated space for connection, learning and growth.

Our Journey

The Inception (August 2024)

The idea for the community was first conceived in August 2024. Recognizing that many DevOps practitioners in Kampala were scattered but connected through professional platforms, we chose LinkedIn as our initial launchpad, forming a group to discover and unite engineers across the city.

The First Session (September 2024)

Our commitment to knowledge sharing was kickstarted on September 14th, 2024, when we hosted our inaugural session. Moderated by Kyanda Steven and featuring Kelvin Galabuzi as our pioneering speaker, this event confirmed the strong demand for a structured community.

Kampala Devops Community first session

We knew immediately that we needed to approach knowledge sharing differently. Every session was recorded, professionally edited and uploaded, leading to the birth of our official YouTube channel. We value making this specialized knowledge accessible to anyone, anytime, ensuring that geographical or timing constraints never hinder learning.

A Year of Growth (August 2025)

Kampala Devops Community first anniversary

We recently celebrated our first anniversary on August 16th, 2025, marking a year of consistent sessions, invaluable insights and significant growth in our membership and outreach.

Our Approach & Values

Driven by Expertise

Our sessions are consistently led by experienced speakers who are highly regarded practitioners in the DevOps field. These experts are motivated by the true power of community, utilizing our platform to share practical learnings and the real-world experiences they have accumulated over their careers.

The Hybrid Model

We understand the value of both flexibility and in-person connection. We initially launched with online sessions conducted via Microsoft Teams webinars, proudly supported by Emata Uganda Limited.

As the community matured, we expanded our offerings to include highly valuable physical events, which have been powered by Emata Uganda Limited and hosted at the National ICT Innovation Hub.

Today, all of our sessions are hybrid, offering the best of both worlds: convenient online access and engaging physical meetups that foster deeper networking and collaboration.

Looking Ahead

We have witnessed tremendous growth in the Kampala DevOps Community over the past year and our vision for the future is even bolder. We are committed to promoting the power of community and actively working to onboard more people into the DevOps space, recognizing its critical role in complementing modern software engineering practices.
